The Parish Council has over several years been very proactive in monitoring and getting restrictions on vehicle speeds. It is an item which is regularly on our agenda and is continually addressed.

Following the purchase of the SID, the Parish Council is now able to collect data in approved locations, recently the Speed Indicator Device has been located opposite The Inn at Huxley and the results are available to download.

The Parish Council previously borrow the speed indicator monitor (SID) from CWaC for 2 week periods on a regular basis and use it in approved locations throughout Huxley. The Parish Council are always looking for more volunteers to undertake the training to be SID operators – if you wish to volunteer please contact the clerk on clerk@hargravehuxleyparishcouncil.gov.uk

The Parish Council has tried to raise awareness of the speeding traffic through Huxley and raised money from grants provided by the Police and Crime Commissioner, CWaC Ward Councillor, Mike Jones and the Parish Council to purchase the village gates in 2022.

The Parish Council has discussed and are keen to explore getting permanent solar driven monitors that displays your speed along Huxley Lane and although funds have been deflected to other spending priorities to date, the Parish Council hopes this can remain an option for the future.

The Parish Council have also asked CWaC to move the 40mph speed much further back on Church Lane as you enter the village gates in order for vehicles to slow down and also extend the 40mph sign on Huxley Lane but unfortunately this has been refused by CWaC.

The Parish Council understands that there is regularly arguments between car drivers on Church Lane in Huxley about right of way past the parked cars which leaves traffic backing up well past the school and this is usually around rush hour during the mornings, along with the school traffic however at this time the parked cars are ensuring motorists have to slow down which the Parish Council wish to encourage.

The Parish Council in 2019 were successful in getting a speed restriction on Guy Lane but only to 50 mph. The process took several years to implement and cost the parish council thousands of pounds.

CWaC carried out a Traffic Survey in 2022 along Long Lane, Hargrave and through the village of Hargrave. The results showed that speed limits were not being exceeded in the main and we were informed that no further action could be taken.
